Missouri Southern State University invites applications from, and nominations of, dynamic and inspiring leaders for the position of University President.

Missouri Southern State University (MSSU), is a four-year public university located in Joplin, Missouri. Focused on its mission of “educating and graduating knowledgeable, responsible, and successful global citizens,” MSSU will welcome a President who thrives on academic success and achievement; embraces the energy of community, change and innovation, values diversity and inclusion, and is committed to the notion that MSSU’s students must be given the opportunity to explore the knowledge and acquire the skills relevant to a complex and changing world.

Missouri Southern State University is accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. Located in Joplin, Missouri, along historic Route 66, the University is within minutes of some of the greatest scenery and waterways in the nation. Missouri Southern serves approximately 6,000 students in nearly 200 academic programs. MSSU’s outstanding NCAA Division II athletics programs, award-winning themed semesters, fun student activities and enriching cultural events in theatre, art, music and film create an engaging learning environment for our students and citizens of the region. MSSU graduates work in their communities every day as leaders, entrepreneurs, artists, teachers and innovators.

Joplin, located in southern Jasper County and northern Newton County in the southwestern corner of Missouri, is the largest city in Jasper County and has a city population of more than 52,000 people. Joplin enjoys the community lifestyle often associated with a smaller town, but also the amenities of a city that serves more than 250,000 people every day with jobs, medical care, education, retail, and entertainment. The 400,000 people within a 40 mile radius makes Joplin the state’s 4th largest metropolitan area. It is routinely touted as one of the best, and most affordable, places in the United States to live, work and raise a family.

Missouri Southern’s next president must be a strategic thinker. The President must have clear goals and objectives in mind, but also knows how to create a culture of productivity and accountability that drive results in a complex environment. She or he must have both financial/organizational acumen and a long-term vision for academic excellence.

The next president will lead with humility while exhibiting the confidence and courage to take MSSU’s fundraising endeavors to the next level. He or she must be decisive with a collaborative personality that can help unite the students, faculty, and staff to build an even stronger sense of community within the region and state. This leader will bring infectious energy to the institution and passionately and articulately convey the University’s path to continued and greater success.

This person needs to successfully balance the responsibilities of being a leader on campus and an ambassador to the Joplin community as well as the State Capitol.
